House on the hillside

The intention of our clients, a family of four, was to design a house with two floors, a basement, a summer kitchen, a covered terrace with a view of Devín Castle, and a covered parking space.

Location and character
The family house is located in a developed area in Devín, on a sloping plot with a southwest orientation. Access to the plot from the street is in the upper part of the slope. When searching for a concept for the house, we decided on rational operation and a compact volume for several reasons: efficient use of space on the plot, simple construction on a slope, minimization of complicated details at the contact of the house with the terrain, simple drainage of the adjacent terrain around the building. In addition to the construction of the house itself, we are also considering the design of retaining walls on the plot. The first to create a paved plane for parking spaces, the second to provide a green plane in the lower part of the plot, which will increase the potential for using the slope. The overall character of the house is clean and the intention of our customers is clearly legible.

Levels
The house is atypical in that it is accessed from the upper part of the slope. The ground floor is connected to the upper level without stairs, where there is a common area with accessories, a guest or barrier-free area for seniors, a covered outdoor terrace and a covered parking space. The first floor is the private part of the family. The lower green level is connected by a basement with a summer kitchen and a staircase with an exit directly to the covered terrace of the ground floor. The lowest level of the plot is an area for a utility garden. All levels on the plot are connected by simple terrain stairs.

Roof
The house has two roof levels. The roof above the first floor is flat with a gravel embankment and the ground floor roof is green. Its advantages include, in addition to its pleasant appearance, the protection of the roof layers against UV radiation, overheating, dust and pollution, but especially the retention of at least 50% of rainwater falling on the roof. This increases the life of the roof and the comfort in the interior. The maintenance of the green roof is minimal and the view from the windows of the first floor is underlined in green.
